Pelican House of Baton Rouge is scheduled to open on Monday, April 29th. This weekend, Pelican House is having a soft media opening, a chance to come by and see the place before it gets packed, and this place will be packed.
The Pelican House crew has done an incredible job. The beer list boasts the most complete draft list in town. The whiskey list is equally impressive. But, what I liked the most is the atmosphere. It’s really almost three separate atmospheres. They have the main floor, surrounded by two bars, an upper level with lots of couch space and coffee tables, and an outdoor patio. The music is at the perfect level, quiet enough that you can talk, but loud enough that you don’t feel like everyone is hearing you. And, the music selection is great, concentrating on dixieland jazz and gospel tunes, with some variety in the mix. One of the smartest things they’ve done is placed their televisions strategically. They’re up in the ceiling, and towards the sides of the room, which means if you want to watch television, you can easily see a TV from pretty much anywhere, but if you don’t want to get distracted by a TV, they’re out of sight. It’s very well done.
I think they’ve got a really good thing going at Pelican House and I hope you go check them out. Spend some time talking to the owners and managers. They’re pretty pumped about their place, and they have a right to be.
